Jack and his 19 year old son Erik joined me for a private Haute Route trip last week.
A smaller trip allows for more individual freedom and can be a lot of fun, and there is still plenty of time to meet other people in the huts!
Our first day was a shake down day on the Vallee Blanche to enjoy this world famous off piste run and make sure all our equipment was in order!
Day 2, our first day on the actual route, saw me breaking trail and navigating with GPS, but it was well worth it! Here we are climbing the Col du Passon. Later in the way we climbed over the Col du Tour Inferior which was very alpine and easily possible because of our small group size. We were rewarded to a quiet and comfortable stay at the hut because few skiers ventured out because of the foggy weather.
Here we are leaving the mont fort hut on day 3 of the actual route. The rosy finger tips of dawn ( from Homer) our greeting us with pink views of Mt Blanc from where we have come.
We got to summit Rosa Blanche on a beautiful day!
Skinning up the Pas de Chat with Lake Dix in the background.
Another summit: Tete Noir, next to the Dix hut.
Early morning departure from the vignettes hut for our 3 col day to zermatt. The weather started out nice, then deteriorated, but we made it !
Our final descent into zermatt, skiing down the Stokji glacier past the Matterhorn!
Tired but happy! In zermatt looking back up at the Matterhorn !
